Indonesia Names Elite Climbing Squad for National Training Program 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has officially announced its roster of elite athletes for the 2026 national sport climbing training program, signaling the country’s ambitions on the international stage.
The announcement was made by manager of the Indonesian National Climbing Team, Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro, at the team’s training facility in Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
The list, compiled by the Indonesian Climbing Association (FPTI), reflects a comprehensive evaluation of athlete performance in recent national and international competitions, as well as strategic considerations ahead of upcoming international tournaments.
“This 2026 national training squad is the result of rigorous selection and evaluation, as well as organizational transformation. Our goal is to prepare the best team to compete at international events,” said Wahyu, who also serves as Secretary-General of FPTI, as quoted by Antara.
The athletes will enter a centralized training program under the guidance of a newly appointed coaching team, aiming to boost performance and consistency ahead of major competitions, including the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, scheduled for September.
“We expect these athletes to show significant progress during the training program and bring pride to Indonesia at the international level,” Wahyu added.
The squad is divided across three disciplines: speed, lead, and boulder, with several athletes competing in both lead and boulder events.
