RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is set to field six karatekas at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, as the team targets a stronger medal haul and aims to raise the country’s profile on the international stage.
The six karatekas comprise three men and three women, the Indonesian Karate National Team said on Instagram on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The three male athletes are Christopher Elbert Setiabudi, Daniel Hutapea and M. Tegar Januar, while the women's team consists of Marzell Sekar Damayanti, Leica Al Humaira Lubis and Cok Istri Sanistya Rani, Antara reported.
Christopher will compete in men's kata, Daniel in men's kumite +84kg, while Januar will compete in men's kumite -55kg. Marzella will compete in women's kata, Leica in women's kumite +68kg, and Coki in women's kumite -55kg.
The six karatekas are expected to give their best at the 2026 Asian Games so that Indonesia can strengthen its standing on the international stage.
Indonesia aims to at least match its achievement at the 2022 Asian Games, when it won one bronze medal through karateka Ignatius Joshua Kandou in the men's 75kg kumite event. ***
