RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission XII lawmaker emphasized the importance of a multilateral approach to addressing the geopolitical situation in the Middle East. He said the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina’s energy supply diversification strategy must be accelerated to avoid dependence on conflict-prone routes.

The National Awakening Party (PKB) politician stressed that the government must safeguard Indonesia’s strategic assets amid the conflict between the United States and Iran. His statement came in response to the Pertamina tanker that remains detained in the Strait of Hormuz.

“This is not just about the ship, but about how the state protects strategic assets and its citizens amid global conflict,” Syafruddin said in a press statement in Jakarta on Monday, March 30, 2026.

According to Syafruddin, President Prabowo Subianto needs to demonstrate direct leadership in situations like this. He said that the president’s involvement would strengthen Indonesia’s bargaining position as a non-aligned country.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital route through which around 20 percent of the world’s oil flows. Disruptions in the region affect not only Indonesia, but also global energy stability,” Syafruddin said.

Two Pertamina tankers have reportedly been detained due to escalating tensions in the region, including Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to its conflict with the United States and Israel.

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, is conducting intensive diplomacy to ensure the safety of the ships and their crews.

The search for three Indonesian crew members aboard the tugboat Musaffah 2 is still being carried out by authorities in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE Judha Nugraha in a written statement to RRI on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Ambassador Judha stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi is coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat to continue handling the explosion incident on the Musaffah 2 in the Strait of Hormuz. He said the three Indonesian crew members, identified as M, S, and A, have not yet been found.

“The three missing Indonesian crew members are still unaccounted for. The Omani and UAE authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the search results,” Ambassador Judha said.

Meanwhile, the surviving Indonesian citizen, Rano Djama, who served as the ship’s captain, has undergone burn surgery and been discharged from the hospital. The Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has also issued a new passport, as his previous passport sank with the Musaffah 2.

“The embassy has assisted in issuing the new passport and facilitated compensation from the company. He plans to spend his leave in Indonesia once his health improves,” Ambassador Judha said. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
