RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta — Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, outlined the readiness of transportation infrastructure and services for the 2026 Eid transportation period during a working meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Dudy said the government, particularly the Ministry of Transportation along with transportation stakeholders, has prepared various measures to face this year’s Eid travel period.

Based on a survey on potential travel during the 2026 Eid transportation period, the number of people expected to travel is estimated to reach 50.60 percent of Indonesia’s population, or around 143.91 million people. The figure is 1.75 percent lower than the survey result for the 2025 Eid transportation period, which estimated about 146 million travelers.

“However, the actual number of travelers in 2025 reached 154 million people. This shows that public mobility during the Eid period tends to exceed the figures estimated in surveys,” Dudy said.

To anticipate the high mobility of travelers, the government has prepared various measures, including ensuring the readiness of land, sea, air, and ferry transportation infrastructure, conducting safety inspections of transportation modes, and providing additional fleets.

In addition, the government is providing economic stimulus through discounted fares for airplane, ship, train, and ferry tickets, organizing free homecoming (mudik gratis) programs, implementing the work from anywhere (WFA) policy, traffic engineering measures, and regulating the operations of freight vehicles.

The Ministry of Transportation is also conducting digital-based monitoring of the Eid transportation period through reporting on transport nodes and networks, surveillance of vehicle movements, live drone streaming, accident monitoring, and public complaint services.

“The monitoring also includes weather observations and early warnings from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), as well as monitoring of 7,159 CCTV cameras in cooperation with regional governments, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector,” Dudy said.

To ensure smoother traffic flow to ferry ports, the government has prepared a layered buffer zone scheme at Merak Port. Buffer zones on toll roads will utilize rest areas starting from KM 13, KM 43, to KM 63.

In addition, port buffer zones are also prepared in the Merak Port area, Indah Kiat, BBJ, and Ciwandan, as well as several points along arterial roads to prevent vehicle congestion.

For the 2026 Eid transportation period, the government has also prepared five ferry routes from Java to Sumatra, namely Merak–Bakauheni, Ciwandan–PT Wijaya Karya Beton, Ciwandan–Bakauheni, BBJ Bojonegara–BBJ Muara Pilu, and PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera–Panjang as a contingency plan.

Meanwhile, for crossings from Java to Bali and West Nusa Tenggara, the government has prepared the Ketapang–Gilimanuk and Jangkar–Lembar routes. Dudy said the government is also anticipating potential restrictions on ferry port operations between Java and Bali due to the Nyepi Day celebration, which falls close to Eid al-Fitr.
