RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, held an audience with the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Headquarters in Jakarta, on Monday, 23 February 2026. This collaboration is to strengthen coordination in preparation for the 2026 Eid Transportation Services. One of the steps prepared is the use of mosques for travelers.

Minister of Transportation Dudy conveyed a request for support from the Ministry of Religious Affairs regarding the plan to utilize mosques along the homecoming routes as rest areas for travelers, especially those using private vehicles and motorcycles. The mosques are expected to provide basic facilities such as parking areas, toilets, clean water, lighting, and rest areas for the public.

"Through the utilization of mosques along the homecoming route, we hope the community can rest comfortably during their journey. We will also prepare supporting facilities so that travelers can rest safely," Dudy stated.

In addition to utilizing places of worship, the Ministry of Transportation has also prepared several other facilities as rest points for travelers, such as terminals and weighbridges located along the travel routes. Furthermore, Minister Dudy stated that the synergy between the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Religious Affairs is important because the Eid al-Fitr season is not only related to the mobility of a large number of people but also has strong spiritual and social dimensions.

"This is a very good synergy between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation, considering that the momentum of Eid al-Fitr not only has a significant mobility dimension but also carries deep spiritual and social meaning for our society," he said.

The Minister of Transportation added that based on the survey results of potential people traveling during the Eid al-Fitr period in 2026, it is estimated that around 143 million people will travel during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period. This figure is slightly lower than last year's survey results, which reached 146 million people, but the government remains vigilant for the possibility of a surge in public mobility.

The majority of people traveling during Eid are estimated to be doing so for the purpose of going home and visiting relatives in their hometowns, accounting for around 66 percent of the total survey respondents.

"Last year, the actual number of people traveling even reached around 154 million people. Therefore, we remain prepared for the possibility of an increase in public travel ahead of the holiday," Dudy conveyed.
