RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated the ministry is preparing to revoke environmental approvals for eight business units that have been proven to violate environmental requirements. He made the statement during a working meeting with Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Monday, 26 January 2026.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment is following up on President Prabowo Subianto’s directive delivered during a recent limited cabinet meeting regarding the regulation and possible revocation of permits for 28 business units found to have violated environmental rules.

This step was taken following the hydrometeorological disasters that hit Aceh, North Sumatera, and West Sumatera, which were allegedly triggered by business activities that did not comply with environmental carrying capacity. 

“Following the President’s directive issued during the recent limited cabinet meeting, we are preparing the revocation of environmental approvals for eight major business units that do not meet the required standards,” Hanif stated.

Hanif added that the eight companies met several criteria for permit revocation as stipulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry concerning the Implementation of Supervision and Administrative Sanctions in the Environmental Sector. One of these relates to environmental pollution and/or environmental damage that cannot be controlled or is difficult to restore.

Meanwhile, regarding the other 20 business units, Hanif stated that they are still awaiting the revocation of their business permits by the relevant technical ministries, which will automatically be followed by the revocation of their environmental permits. 

“Under existing rules, when a business permit is revoked by the relevant authority, the environmental approval will also be revoked. For the remaining 20 entities, we are waiting for action from the technical ministries, while the eight entities will proceed to revocation due to serious violations,” he said.

In addition to action against the 28 business entities, the Ministry of Environment has also carried out field inspections of 68 companies in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Hanif said all inspected companies are required to undergo environmental audits as the basis for further action, which may include permit reinforcement, permit revocation, as well as civil and criminal legal proceedings.
