RRI.CO.ID, Malang – Malang Station is the primary railway gateway to Malang, East Java. Located in the heart of Klojen district, this historic station sits approximately 444 meters above sea level.
The origin of the station dates back to the Dutch colonial era, opening to the public on July 20, 1879. It was initially constructed by the Staatsspoorwegen company to facilitate agricultural transport and passenger mobility across East Java.
Architecturally, the complex presents a fascinating contrast between two distinct eras across its tracks. The west building retains classic Art Deco elements from its 1930s redesign, while the east side features a modern glass-and-steel terminal expanded in 2021.
As a major classification station, it accommodates various train services operated by the state railway company Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). The layout features nine tracks that manage both long-distance intercity trains and regional commuter routes.

Long-distance express trains connect Malang directly to key major cities across Java, including Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya. Meanwhile, local commuter services offer frequent connections to surrounding towns in East Java.
Inside the station complex, essential facilities such as ticket counters, digital check-in kiosks, and comfortable waiting areas are available. Passengers can also access luggage storage options, clean restrooms, air-conditioned lounges, and several food retail stalls.
Navigating between the historical west terminal and the modern east building is straightforward via a pedestrian skybridge. This elevated walkway allows passengers to move safely across the tracks while providing scenic views of the surrounding city.
Overall, Malang Station is a crucial piece of East Java's transportation infrastructure, blending rich heritage with modern passenger services. It continues to handle thousands of commuters daily, connecting the cool highlands of Malang to the rest of Indonesia.
