RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Flora and Fauna Festival (Flona) 2026 will highlight a six-zone eco-region concept when it opens at Lapangan Banteng Park in Central Jakarta, running from August 28 to September 27.

Operating daily from 10.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. local time under the theme "Akar Nusantara Bertumbuh di Jakarta" (Nusantara's Roots Growing in Jakarta), the festival spotlights the natural biodiversity and environmental characteristics of six distinct geographical regions: Sumatra, Java-Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara-Maluku, and Papua.

Organized as part of Jakarta's journey toward its fifth centennial, the month-long event combines flora and fauna exchanges, interactive installations, culinary stands, and educational exhibits to demonstrate how Indonesia's primary metropolis can foster green open spaces and preserve regional ecological heritage.

Municipal officials and urban forestry authorities emphasized that integrating regional biodiversity into public spaces fosters environmental awareness while supporting Jakarta's long-term transformation into a sustainable global city.

Head of the Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Agency M. Fajar Sauri detailed the educational and community-driven vision behind Flona 2026.

"Flona 2026 is not merely a flora and fauna exhibition. It is a space for the public to discover the richness of Indonesia's biodiversity, learn about the environment, and build awareness that green open spaces and natural conservation are essential parts of urban living," Fajar stated in an official release in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that the event aligns directly with the capital city's long-term sustainable growth trajectory. "Through Flona, we hope more people get involved in creating Jakarta as a green, healthy, inclusive, and sustainable city," Sauri added. ***
