RRI.CO.ID, Wonosobo - Indonesia will showcase the Wonosobo Traditional Balloon community at the Festival del Globo Tahmek Yucatán 2026 in Mexico. The international festival will take place in Yucatán on August 22–23, 2026.
The Wonosobo Balloon Community is the only Indonesian representative invited to the festival. The invitation was extended directly by the organizers in recognition of the community's international reputation.
The festival will feature participants from six countries, including Mexico, France, Colombia, Brazil, El Salvador, and Indonesia. Indonesia will be represented by delegates from the Wonosobo Balloon Community.
Head of the Wonosobo Tourism and Culture Office, Fahmi Hidayat, said the invitation provides an opportunity to introduce Indonesia's cultural heritage abroad. He said the event will also promote Wonosobo's tourism potential to international audiences.
"The Wonosobo Balloon Community received an invitation to perform at the Festival del Globo Tahmek in Yucatán, Mexico. This is a source of pride because it allows us to promote Wonosobo's culture, creativity, and tourism potential to the international community," Fahmi said.
Indonesia will display two traditional balloons featuring special designs inspired by Wonosobo's culture and tourist attractions. One balloon will combine Indonesian and Mexican cultural elements as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
Wonosobo Balloon Community Chairman, Agam Setyobudi, said the invitation reflects international recognition of the region's balloon tradition. He noted that the invitation followed recommendations from a Brazilian participant who attended the Wonosobo Mudik Festival in 2025.
"Indonesia is represented only by Wonosobo. This is both an honor and a responsibility to show the world that Wonosobo's traditional balloons have internationally recognized quality, creativity, and cultural value," he said.
The Wonosobo Regency Government viewed the participation as part of its strategy to strengthen cultural tourism and expand international partnerships. The event also follows the recognition of Wonosobo Traditional Balloon Culture as Indonesia's Intangible Cultural Heritage earlier this year.
