RRI.CO.ID, Garut - Indonesia's Garut International Kite Festival (GKF) 2026 attracted international participants while promoting tourism and local businesses. The festival took place at Teras Papandayan, Garut, West Java, on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

The international event drew thousands of visitors and featured kite enthusiasts from 13 countries. It also showcased local MSMEs and tourism attractions in the Garut highlands.

Garut Regent, Abdusy Syakur, Amin said the festival helps introduce Garut to international communities. He added that the regional government remains committed to supporting similar events in the future.

"We hope more visitors will explore other attractions in Garut. Most importantly, this festival introduces Garut to the international community," he said.

Syakur further said the local government is prepared to improve infrastructure and accessibility for future festivals. He also affirmed the importance of welcoming international visitors with hospitality and openness.

The organizing committee reported more than 4,300 visitors attended the festival since July 29. Participants came from Sweden, China, Japan, Switzerland, Thailand, Singapore, France, Belgium, South Korea, Italy, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Organizer of the event, Hariyo Puguh Witjaksono, said the mountain location was chosen to create a distinctive tourism destination. He said the festival also aims to introduce Garut's natural beauty to international visitors.

President of the Malaysian Kite Council (Majlis Pelayang Malaysia) Datuk A. Rahim Nin, praised Garut's mountain scenery and cool climate. He said participants enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere while flying kites in the area.

"The natural landscape is truly beautiful. Participants feel safe, comfortable, and enjoy flying kites in the cool mountain weather," he said.
