Among its most popular attractions is Mount Kawi, a destination offering a blend of religious tourism, outdoor adventure, and cultural experiences.

Located on the border of Malang and Blitar regencies, Mount Kawi stands at approximately 2,551 meters above sea level. The dormant volcano is surrounded by lush forests, rolling hills, and natural springs, creating a cool and tranquil environment for visitors.

In addition to being a popular hiking destination, Mount Kawi is well known for its religious tourism centered around the Mount Kawi Sacred Cemetery (Pesarean Gunung Kawi), which attracts pilgrims from across Indonesia each year. From downtown Malang, the journey to Mount Kawi covers about 45 kilometers and takes approximately one and a half hours via the Malang–Wonosari route. Visitors can follow the road signs leading to Pesarean Gunung Kawi or Wonosari Tourism Village.

Entrance fees to attractions within the Mount Kawi area are relatively affordable. Admission to Pesarean Gunung Kawi costs around Rp5,000 per person. Entrance to Selo Agung Tourism Park and the Mount Kawi–Mount Butak hiking trail ranges from Rp5,000 to Rp10,000, while tickets to Umbulan Tanaka cost between Rp10,000 and Rp15,000 per person. Ticket prices may vary during holiday seasons and public holidays.

One of the area's main attractions is the sacred cemetery of Mount Kawi, the final resting place of Raden Mas Soeryo Koesoemo, also known as Kiai Haji Zakaria, and Raden Mas Iman Soedjono, who is believed to have been a follower of Prince Diponegoro. The site is particularly crowded during Javanese sacred nights such as Thursday Kliwon, Friday Legi, and during annual memorial ceremonies.

Beyond its spiritual appeal, Mount Kawi offers stunning natural scenery ideal for relaxation and outdoor activities. Visitors can enjoy the fresh mountain air, explore the surrounding forests, or hike Mount Kawi and neighboring Mount Butak. The mountain's savanna provides a scenic spot to watch the sunrise against a backdrop of green hills.

The nearby Wonosari area also reflects the cultural blend of Javanese and Chinese traditions. Visitors can explore the Dewi Kwan Im Temple, stroll through the local Chinatown district, and sample regional specialties such as rawon (East Javanese black beef soup), grilled goat satay, and dried dewandaru fruit sold by local vendors.

At certain times of the year, the area hosts traditional cultural performances, including dance and wayang puppet shows, alongside exhibitions featuring products from local micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
