RRI.CO.ID, Lumajang - Tumpak Sewu Waterfall Sidomulyo Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java Province, drew almost 9,900 visitors during the long Idul Adha and Vesak holiday period. This influx gave the local economy a visible lift as small businesses, guides, transport providers, and homestays experienced a surge in demand.
Manager of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, Ciko, said about 7,900 of the visitors were domestic tourists and roughly 2,000 were international. He noted the recent holiday turnout surpassed previous peak seasons, including Christmas‑New Year and Eid al‑Fitr holidays.
“The rise in visitor numbers reflects our collective efforts to maintain comfort, safety, and quality of service in the tourist area. We continue to strive to provide the best experience for every visitor,” he said on Monday, June 8, 2026, as quoted by infopublik.id.
Local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), food vendors, transport operators, tour guides and accommodation managers reported higher activity and sales as tourists arrived. Head of Destination Affairs at Lumajang’s Tourism Agency, Galih Permadi, said the figures indicate growing national and international appeal for Lumajang’s attractions.
“The success of a destination is not only determined by natural beauty but also by management quality, service, and community involvement in preserving the site. When tourists come, economic activities around the destination move and open business opportunities for the community," he said, adding that tourism must deliver tangible benefits to residents.
Galih said the strong turnout at Tumpak Sewu should be used as momentum to raise overall destination quality across Lumajang Regency. Authorities plan to strengthen connections between attractions so visitors have more options during their stay, encouraging them to explore beyond Tumpak Sewu and spread economic benefits across the region.
The Lumajang Administration remains optimistic that professionally managed, sustainable nature tourism will continue to attract visitors and support local development. ***
