RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism successfully hosted its high-profile Mega Familiarization (FAM) Trip 2026, welcoming prominent international tourism operators to explore the country's multi-layered nature, culture, and gastronomy. Running from May 22 to May 27, 2026, the sweeping initiative was anchored by the official promotional campaign #GoBeyondOrdinary.
The large-scale experiential tour was strategically woven into the broader framework of the Bali & Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2026. By design, the ministry aimed to utilize the collaborative momentum of the fair to expand the global marketing of Indonesia's world-class travel destinations situated outside the traditional stronghold of Bali.
"Through this program, we are also introducing the concept of quality tourism, namely tourism that provides added value, has a positive impact on the community, and is sustainable for the destination," the Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said in an official government release confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The Mega FAM Trip 2026 targeted elite travel markets by selecting 22 leading travel agencies hailing from six key nations: Germany, Russia, the Netherlands, the United States, South Africa, and Mozambique. Instead of a superficial sightseeing itinerary, the ministry structured deep destination immersion tracks across a carefully curated selection of premier regional landscapes.
These included the majestic highlands of North Sumatra, the pristine wildlife sanctuaries of Tanjung Puting in Central Kalimantan, the rich royal heritage of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, and the coastal expanses of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
Under the #GoBeyondOrdinary banner, the program challenged international agents to look past conventional itineraries. Participants were encouraged to engage first-hand with the local narratives, traditions, values, and distinct identities that form the core appeal of the Indonesian travel experience.
Deputy Made Marthini elaborated that the country's modern competitive portfolio spans an extraordinarily diverse spectrum of niche segments, seamlessly integrating cultural heritage, eco-tourism, authentic culinary gastronomy, wellness travel, and world-class marine adventures.
The massive logistical execution of the project was bolstered by extensive cross-sector collaboration across diplomatic channels, local administrations, aviation groups, and the hospitality industry. Internationally, the Ministry of Tourism secured critical operational support from various diplomatic missions of the Republic of Indonesia, including the Indonesian Embassies (KBRI) in Berlin, The Hague, Moscow, and Maputo, alongside the Indonesian Consulates General (KJRI) in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
On the domestic front, regional development was closely coordinated alongside local authorities, notably the Lake Toba Authority Implementing Agency (BPODT), the North Sumatra Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy Office, and the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Tourism Agency. To streamline long-haul connectivity, the ministry teamed up with a fleet of commercial airlines including China Southern Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Philippine Airlines, and Pelita Air.
Ground handling operations and specialized regional itineraries were managed through direct partnerships with domestic Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and tour operators, such as Indonesia Impression DMC, Matta Tour, Bhara Tours and Travel Services, ASITA NTB, DWI Tour, and Synergi Ravelino Tours & Travel. Furthermore, a vast network of hospitality brands provided premium accommodations to the global delegates.
These included major properties under the Marriott Bonvoy banner, such as Courtyard by Marriott Nusa Dua, Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort, Fairfield by Marriott Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Le Méridien Jakarta, Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua Resort, and Sheraton Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport, alongside numerous independent regional hospitality staples spanning from luxury eco-lodges to beachfront boutique resorts across Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Lombok, and Bali. ***
