RRI.CO.ID, Sabang - Teupin Layeu and Rubiah Island are two of the most popular marine tourism destinations in Sabang City, Aceh Province. They continue to attract local and international tourists.

The beauty of the underwater world, the crystal-clear waters, and the well-preserved natural atmosphere make this area a tourist icon for Sabang.

Teupin Layeu is known for its expansive natural rock formations along the shore that blend with the gradations of the turquoise sea. Tourists often enjoy the ocean panorama here, relax, and engage in light snorkeling because the clear waters allow them to see the coral reefs from the surface.

Rubiah Island, located directly across from Iboih Beach, is known as Sabang's underwater paradise. The island boasts a well-preserved coral reef ecosystem teeming with colorful fish, making it a prime destination for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. The calm waters also make Rubiah Island ideal for novice tourists.

Tarmizi, the Head of the Iboih Village Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), said that the beauty of Teupin Layeu and Rubiah Island is a natural tourist asset that must be preserved collectively. According to Tarmizi, the area's main attraction is its pristine natural beauty and clean environment.

"Tourists come to Teupin Layeu and Rubiah Island for their pristine natural beauty, clear seawater, and preserved marine life. It is our shared responsibility, as both managers and tourists, to maintain their sustainability," Tarmizi said on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

He added that the Iboih Village Pokdarwis plays a crucial role in supporting sustainable tourism development by managing tourism services, providing environmental education, and ensuring the comfort and safety of tourists.

Thanks to their natural beauty and the active participation of the community, Teupin Layeu and Rubiah Island are expected to remain Sabang's leading tourist destinations, not only beautiful to enjoy but also sustainable for future generations. (Misni Parjiati/Bambang MBKA)
