RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara – Indonesia’s Capital Authority (Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara/OIKN) continues to advance its vision of a smart and sustainable capital city through the adoption of digital technology. One of the latest initiatives is the presentation of smart metering pilot results at the Civil Servants’ Apartment Complex in Nusantara, held at the OIKN Office on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
The program was attended by civil servants residing in the apartment complex and aimed to enhance awareness of smart metering features installed in the smart building system. The technology serves as a key component in promoting efficient and responsible use of electricity and water through transparent and measurable consumption monitoring.
Smart metering is a digital sensor-based automatic measurement system that records electricity and water usage in real time. The system has been fully implemented across all residential units for civil servants in Nusantara, enabling occupants to directly monitor their resource consumption and manage usage more effectively.
Based on data collected by the sensors, the system establishes a usage patterns for each resident, categorized as efficient, moderate, or excessive. Monthly usage reports are automatically delivered to residents via WhatsApp and email, encouraging greater awareness and behavioral change toward energy and water conservation.
Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation of the Nusantara Capital Authority, Agung Indrajit, stated that smart metering is an integral component of the broader ecosystem supporting the development of a smart city that prioritizes responsible and informed citizens.
“All technologies implemented under the smart city concept ultimately aim to shape smart citizens. Through smart metering, we hope residents will become more conscious and efficient in their use of energy and water,” he said.
Through the implementation of smart metering in civil servants’ housing, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to integrating digital innovation, environmental sustainability, and behavioral transformation as the foundation for building Nusantara as an efficient, adaptive, and future-oriented capital city.
