KBRN, Jakarta: Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy for the 2020–2024 period, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, emphasized the vital role of digital transformation in promoting fair and inclusive economic development. He noted that digitalization should be a key driver in creating equal opportunities across various sectors of society.
In his virtual remarks at the 7th Open Society Conference (OSC) 2025 in Jakarta, Tuesday (14/10/2025), Sandiaga shared how digital innovation helped millions of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and creative workers survive the economic crisis during the pandemic. He described technology as a crucial tool for adaptation and resilience.
Sandiaga explained that the government is actively advancing digital empowerment programs to widen access for local businesses. He noted that inclusive digital policies are essential to strengthening the creative economy and reducing regional disparities.
“Digital transformations can open doors to social and economic equity, creating new business opportunities and increasing job availability,” he stated.
He underlined that digitalization goes beyond technology; it is also about humanity, inclusion, and empowerment. These values, he added, form the foundation for achieving economic equality that benefits all layers of society.
Furthermore, Sandiaga highlighted the importance of diversity and equal digital access for all groups, including women, youth, and rural communities. Equal participation, he argued, is the key to building a sustainable and competitive digital ecosystem.
Sandiaga also pointed out that Indonesia currently has over 60 million MSMEs, contributing more than 60 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). These businesses generate around 97 percent of the country's available jobs.
He concluded by calling for collaboration between the government, private sector, and community to ensure that digital transformation truly supports inclusive growth.
“We must ensure that no one is left behind in the digital economy,” he affirmed.
