Indonesia Positions as Regional Hub for Indoor Skydiving Development

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is positioning itself as a rising hub for indoor skydiving, with the International Open Indoor Skydiving Championships Kapolri Cup II 2026 seen as a pivotal step in elevating the nation’s athletes to compete at the Asian and global level.

Deputy National Police Chief Com. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo emphasized that the tournament is designed to accelerate athlete development as well as to set new records and to strengthen Indonesia’s aerospace competitiveness worldwide.

“The Kapolri Cup II is expected to serve as an accelerator for athlete training, record‑breaking achievements, and a driver of Indonesia’s global competitiveness in aerospace sports,” Dedi said in an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday, September 17, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The event, held from September 17–20, drew 382 participants across 156 teams, including 89 athletes and officials from nine countries: China, Japan, Germany, South Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand.

It also featured 20 international judges from 12 countries, bringing the total number of nations involved to 20.

Indonesia’s momentum comes after Brimob Polri athletes secured silver and bronze medals at the 2024 FAI Asian Indoor Skydiving Championships in Macau, while the national team finished fifth at the FAI World Cup.

“These achievements highlight the tangible contribution of Polri athletes to Indonesia’s indoor skydiving success at both Asian and global levels,” Dedi noted.

Chair of the Indonesian Skydiving Committee, Irvan Zuladry, added that consistent international competitions are crucial for athlete development. He underscored ongoing collaborations with skydiving organizations across Asia to ensure regular tournaments in the region.

Alongside the Kapolri Cup II, the 2nd FAI Asian Indoor Skydiving Championships 2026 also took place at the Wind Tunnel Korps Brimob Polri, a facility with a 4.8‑meter diameter capable of accommodating up to 10 skydivers and operating 24 hours.

Irvan expressed hope that the combination of world‑class facilities and recurring international events will strengthen Indonesia’s pathway toward global competitiveness. “We expect the Kapolri Cup to become a momentum for lifting the sport and achieving key development targets,” he said. ***
