RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta — Indonesia's Ministry of Youth and Sports held a ceremony on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, to commemorate the 43rd National Sports Day (Haornas) 2026 at the ministry's headquarters in Jakarta. The solemn ceremony was led by the Ministry's Secretary, Suyadi Pawiro, and attended by senior officials and staff across the ministry.
The event was attended by high- and mid-ranking officials, all Ministry of Youth employees, as well as representatives from the Sports Business Management Agency (LPUK). This year's commemoration carried the theme "Toward an Active and Fit Society," underscoring the direction of the nation's sports development agenda going forward.
In his address, Ministry's Secretary stressed that a fit and healthy Indonesia cannot be achieved by a single ministry alone, but requires the involvement of all segments of the nation. “Sports is an investment for the nation, because through sports, Indonesia is building its people as a whole forming a society that is disciplined, resilient, sportsmanlike, and driven," he said.
He described sports as a form of national investment with far-reaching impact, both in shaping character and improving public health. "while also investing in public health so that people become fitter, more productive, and enjoy a better quality of life,” Ministry's Secretary said.
He went on to outline five directions needed for sports to truly become part of the national development agenda. First, the government must position sports as part of health development and improving the quality of human resources. Second, regional governments must take an active role as the main driving force in encouraging communities to become more active and fit.
Third, sports need to be embedded in people's daily lives rather than remain merely ceremonial. Fourth, the success of sports development should be measured by changes in public behavior toward becoming more active and fit not by the number of events held. Fifth, an inclusive and equitable sports ecosystem must be built for all layers of society.
Suyadi invited the government, the education sector, the business community, sports organizations, communities, and all Indonesian citizens to move together in building a culture of active and healthy living. “Let us start moving now, let us engage in physical activity according to each person's own ability,” he said.
