RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia celebrated a landmark moment in amateur golf as Jennifer Quinn Effendi became the youngest-ever champion of the 2026 Medco-Pondok Indah International Amateur Golf Championship, while Randy A.M. Bintang successfully defended the men's title.

Their victories highlight the country's growing strength in developing young golfers capable of competing at the international level.

Jennifer, who will turn 14 on August 11, claimed the women's title after leading the tournament from start to finish at Pondok Indah Golf Course in Jakarta on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

She finished with a total score of 217 (one over par), five strokes ahead of runners-up Isabella Sudarmanto and Abigail Rhea Soeryo Wiharko, who both finished at 222 (six over).

Despite her victory, Jennifer felt she could have performed even better after missing several short putts.

"In the third round, I wasn't fully satisfied because I missed several one-meter putts. There should have been birdie opportunities, but I couldn't convert them. That's unfortunate," she said on Thursday, July 16, as quoted by Antara.

In the men's competition, Randy successfully retained his title with a total score of 212 (four under par), including a final-round 69 (three under). He previously carded rounds of 72 and 71.

Randy admitted he did not expect to defend his title after the opening two rounds but capitalized as the overnight leaders struggled on the final day.

"I honestly didn't expect to win. But the players ahead of me dropped shots. After the first five holes, I was already two under and started thinking I had a chance. The leaders also ran into trouble, so shooting three under was enough to catch them," Randy said.

Tournament organizer Pondok Indah Golf Club (PIGC) also praised the participants from Indonesia, the United States, China, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Oman, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam for helping elevate the championship.

Organizing Committee Advisor Herry Winarno expressed appreciation to both the players and sponsors, hoping the tournament would become valuable experience for golfers pursuing higher levels of competition. ***
