RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s young boxer Anggie Intania Chalik delivered a crucial victory for the national team at the Asian Boxing U19 and U23 Championships 2026, advancing to the semifinals on Thursday, July 9, after defeating Shairylle Pores of the Philippines.
Competing in the light flyweight division (45–48 kg) at Gelora Bung Karno Basketball Hall, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Anggie keeps Indonesia’s medal hopes alive in the prestigious continental tournament.
Anggie showcased her trademark aggressive style from the opening round under the supervision of Iraqi referee Moushine Souilimi, Antara reported. Despite strong resistance from Pores, Anggie maintained her game plan and landed several decisive blows to the head and body.
The bout went the distance with judges split in their scoring. Three judges favored Anggie with scores of 30–27, 29–28, and 29–28, while two awarded the fight to Pores at 28–29, resulting in a split decision victory for the Indonesian boxer.
Anggie’s teammate Fani Afnan, competing in the women’s flyweight (51 kg), fell short against Japan’s Riko Matsushita. All five judges scored the contest 30–27 in favor of Matsushita, who dominated throughout the match.
This year’s Asian Boxing Championships feature more than 400 athletes from 26 countries, making it one of the toughest competitions in the region. Indonesia fields 19 boxers, with 10 in the U19 category and nine in U23, many of whom are in their international debuts.
For the host nation, the tournament serves not only as a medal hunt but also as a valuable opportunity to gain experience. It allows Indonesian young fighters to measure themselves against Asia’s best and strengthen their readiness for future international events. ***
