RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Mozambique head coach Chiquinho Conde believes Indonesia is on the right path to secure a place at the 2030 FIFA World Cup, praising the Southeast Asian nation's progress after his side suffered a narrow defeat in Jakarta.

Conde made the remarks after Mozambique lost 1-0 to Indonesia in a FIFA Matchday fixture at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The match was decided by a lone goal from Ole Romeny.

"Indonesia, with the coaching staff they have now, and with good, strong players, will certainly be capable of qualifying in 2030," Conde told reporters during the post-match press conference, as quoted by Antara.

Like Indonesia, Mozambique has never qualified for a FIFA World Cup.

The 60-year-old coach said Indonesia's performance demonstrated why the team is becoming increasingly competitive on the international stage.

"I think the Indonesian team was very strong, very strong. After our defeat against Oman, we knew we had to be more careful in the early build-up phase to avoid mistakes, but everything went the other way," Conde said.

He explained that Mozambique struggled to establish possession and structure during the opening half, allowing Indonesia to capitalize.

"In the first half, we couldn't build our game effectively, the team became unbalanced, and the Indonesian team took advantage of that situation and scored a beautiful goal," he added.

After facing difficulties before the break, Conde adjusted his team's approach in the second half, resulting in a more balanced contest and several dangerous counterattacking opportunities.

"So, we managed to adapt," he said.

Although disappointed with the result, Conde expressed satisfaction with the broader objectives of Mozambique's June international window, which included evaluating several new players.

"These FIFA matches have been very useful for me to observe new players for the future," said Conde, who has been in charge of Mozambique squad since July 2021. ***
