RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian women’s volleyball team earned a convincing straight-set win against Hong Kong, China, in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup Women 2026 held in the Philippines.
The Red and White closed out the group-stage clash on Tuesday, June 9, with scores of 25-20, 27-25, and 25-14, underscoring their dominance despite a tense second set.
Team manager Luciana Taroreh praised her squad’s resilience, noting that Hong Kong posed a strong challenge, particularly when Indonesia rotated several players.
“Hong Kong gave us a good fight, especially in the second set when we made player rotations,” Luciana said.
She explained that the rotation strategy was part of a long-term plan to provide younger athletes with valuable playing time.
“Opportunities for junior players are an integral part of our development program,” she added.
Luciana acknowledged that the team briefly struggled with communication on court but quickly regrouped to secure the crucial win.
“Although performance and communication dipped at times, the players showed strong mentality to overcome the pressure,” she said.
According to her, the victory was not only vital for Indonesia’s group-stage campaign but also a meaningful step in the team’s regeneration process.
“This result is a valuable lesson for the younger generation and a positive boost after securing a 3-0 win,” Luciana emphasized.
Before defeating Hong Kong, Indonesia had pushed Vietnam to a deciding fifth set, narrowly losing 13-15 in the final set. Earlier in the tournament, Indonesia opened its campaign with a 3-1 win over Iran before suffering a straight-sets defeat to Kazakhstan.
The victory over Hong Kong keeps Indonesia’s chances of advancing from the group stage alive and provides momentum ahead of its final group match against Lebanon on June 12, 2026. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
