RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian fencer Aldo Pratama Arjoni gained valuable international experience at the 2026 Asian Games despite being eliminated in the men's individual foil round of 32 by Japan's Kyosuke Matsuyama on Tuesday, September 22.
Aldo advanced to the elimination stage after placing 28th among 36 competitors in the pool phase, recording one win and four losses. His only pool-stage victory came against the Philippines' Nathaniel Perez, whom he defeated 5-3, Antara reported.
Aldo's four losses came against Chen Yi-Tung of Taiwan, 2-5, Choi Chun Yin Ryan of Hong Kong, 0-5, Hamed Aljallaf of the United Arab Emirates, 4-5, and Elijah Robson Samuel of Singapore, 2-5.
His 28th-place finish in the pool phase set up a round-of-32 meeting with fifth-seeded Matsuyama.
Competing against the Japanese fencer at Aichi Sky Expo Hall B-F, Aldo struggled to contain Matsuyama's scoring and eventually lost 4-15. The defeat ended his run in the men's individual foil event at Asia's largest multi-sports event.
Matsuyama advanced to the round of 16, where he will face the winner of the match between Qatar's Abdulrahman Poorgharib and Taiwan's Chih-Chieh Chen. ***
