RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s rising climbing talent Alma Ariella Tsany is using Kartini Day as a moment to reaffirm that women can compete, excel, and contribute to national sporting success on the international stage.

She said that the annual commemoration serves as an important reflection for Indonesian women to keep pursuing their dreams, including in elite sports often seen as male-dominated.

“For me, Kartini Day means women can pursue their dreams as high as men,” she said from Jakarta on Tuesday night, April 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Kartini Day is celebrated in Indonesia every year on April 21 to honor Raden Ajeng Kartini, a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and education. It symbolizes the struggle for gender equality and remains a national day of reflection on women’s empowerment.

Alma stressed that women have equal opportunities to achieve success at both national and international levels, as long as it is supported by hard work, discipline, and focus.

Given equal opportunities and proper development systems, she added, women can also become the backbone of Indonesia’s sporting achievements.

The East Java-born athlete said her career journey has been driven more by internal motivation than external challenges.

“Sometimes the challenge is not from outside, but I always motivate and challenge myself that if they (men) can do it, I can too,” she added.

Alma, born on July 25, 2009, said she has not experienced discrimination during her career, but emphasized the importance of professionalism and adaptability for female athletes.

She highlighted consistency in training as the key to pushing limits and achieving results, alongside maintaining focus and commitment to always give her best.

Through Kartini Day, she hopes more Indonesian women will dare to pursue their dreams and contribute to elevating the country’s name globally.

Alma is one of Indonesia’s promising young athletes in lead climbing, with multiple national achievements.

Internationally, she recently competed at the Asian Climbing Championship Meishan 2026 and has secured a place at the Asian Games 2026 in September. ***
