RRI.CO.ID, Prague - Indonesia’s Putra Tri Ramadani won the gold medal in the men’s lead event at the 2026 World Climbing Series Prague with a score of 43, ending Indonesia’s long wait for a world title in the discipline.

Known by the nickname “Srondeng,” Putra emerged as the best climber in the final, claiming gold ahead of some of the world’s top athletes. Japan’s Neo Suzuki took silver with a score of 39, while Austria’s Jakob Schubert secured bronze with 37 points.

The lead final was held in Prague, Czech Republic, on Sunday, June 7, 2026, local time. Before starting his climb, Putra carefully studied the route set by the route setters and devised the best strategy to tackle the challenging course.

He climbed confidently, gradually navigating the holds of varying shapes and sizes that were carefully placed throughout the route. His patience and determination helped him achieve the best result in the decisive round despite the route’s difficulty.

The Indonesian national climbing team manager, Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro, said the achievement reflected the hard work of the entire team.

“This gold medal from Srondeng shows the hard work of everyone in the national training camp,” Wahyu said after accompanying the athletes early Monday morning, June 8, 2026, Western Indonesia Time.

“This is a historic achievement for all of us, as the lead discipline has finally become world champion. It should serve as momentum to further improve the abilities of our young lead climbers,” he added.

Putra said he was delighted to win his first gold medal at the world level. The event also marked his second final appearance in the World Climbing Series.

“This is my second final and my first gold medal. I’m very happy. The final route was very difficult, especially the upper section, and my arms were completely pumped,” Putra told RRI.co.id after securing the gold medal.

He acknowledged that there are still areas for improvement to maintain consistency in future competitions, particularly route observation and managing nerves during international events. “My homework is improving route reading and overcoming nervousness,” he said.

In the final, Putra competed against seven of the world’s leading climbers: Sorato Anraku (Japan), Neo Suzuki (Japan), Satone Yoshida (Japan), Adam Ondra (Czech Republic’s), Luka Potocar (Slovenia), Filip Schenk (Italy) and Jakob Schubert (Austria).

The East Java-born climber was Indonesia’s only representative in the men’s lead final. Fellow Indonesian climbers Raviandi Ramadhan and Ravianto Ramadhan were eliminated in the qualification round.

In the women’s lead event, Alma Ariella Tsany advanced to the semifinals, while Lintang Cahyani Sukma exited in the qualification stage.

This was Putra’s second appearance in a World Climbing Series final. He previously reached the final at the World Climbing Series in Koper, Slovenia, on Sept. 5-6, 2025, where he finished sixth with a score of 40+ and narrowly missed out on a medal. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
