RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The controversy over passport eligibility that sidelined several Indonesian national team players in the Netherlands is beginning to ease, with key names now cleared to return to league action.

Justin Hubner, 22, is expected to feature for Fortuna Sittard this weekend when they host NAC Breda in the Eredivisie’s 30th round on Sunday, April 12, 2026. Dutch outlet De Limburger reported that Hubner, along with Suriname-born midfielder Justin Lonwijk, has regained eligibility after missing one match due to the passport dispute, Antara reported.

Earlier, Dean James had already been allowed back for Go Ahead Eagles, who face Groningen away on Sunday, April 12. The Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) lifted disciplinary restrictions following its investigation, enabling James and teammate Richonell Margaret to rejoin the squad.

Other Indonesian internationals have also seen progress. Tim Geypens was confirmed by FC Emmen to have secured temporary residency valid until 2031, while Nathan Tjoe-A-On has rejoined Willem II after obtaining a work permit. Both clubs announced the players’ return via official statements.

This weekend, Emmen will travel to Waalwijk in the Eerste Divisie, while Willem II host Almere City.

The case, dubbed 'passportgate', stemmed from Dutch nationality laws: players who voluntarily adopt another citizenship automatically lose Dutch nationality.

Since neither Indonesia nor the Netherlands allows dual citizenship, Indonesian naturalized players such as James, Geypens, Nathan, and Hubner were temporarily barred from club duties, including training.
