RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is set to test its strength in Southeast Asia’s evolving esports landscape by entering the inaugural SEA Esports Nation Cup 2026, positioning the tournament as a key step in its long-term competitive strategy. The event will take place on May 7-9, 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, as part of Vietnam Gameverse 2026.

According to Had of National Team Board (BTN) Esports, Wishnu Buddhaya, Indonesia’s participation reflects a strategic effort to solidify its status as one of the region’s leading esports forces.

“Indonesia’s participation in the SEA Esports Nation Cup 2026 is an important moment to demonstrate readiness for increasingly competitive regional tournaments, while strengthening Indonesia’s position in the rapidly growing Southeast Asian esports ecosystem,” Wishnu said in a statement on Monday, April 6, as quoted by Antara.

The SEA Esports Nation Cup 2026, initiated by the Southeast Asian Esports Federation (SEAEF), marks the first national team-based esports competition in the region.

Wishnu noted that the tournament is part of a broader structured competition pathway linked to multi-sport events such as the SEA Games and Asian Games, while also promoting modern governance standards within Southeast Asia’s esports ecosystem.

He added that the event offers Indonesia an opportunity to enhance its strategic role in the region and build a foundation for long-term performance development through a more structured and sustainable competition system. The tournament also represents a new phase in regional esports collaboration, bringing together Southeast Asian nations to align visions, establish shared standards, and strengthen cooperation.

The initiative is expected to unlock local potential across countries and create a more competitive regional environment, serving as a foundation for long-term esports growth in Southeast Asia. Its development has been driven by active contributions from national federations across the region, from shaping competition structures and content to coordinating operations and community engagement.

In its inaugural edition, the SEA Esports Nation Cup will feature five main titles across nine events: PUBG Mobile, Teamfight Tactics, Crossfire Legends, Total Football, and Audition.

Indonesia, through the Esports Indonesia Association (PB ESI) and BTN Esports, has entered multiple titles, including Crossfire Legends, PUBG Mobile, Teamfight Tactics, and Audition, across men’s, women’s, and mixed categories. ***
