RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s national team will not conduct special training sessions ahead of their ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 Group A match against Vietnam. Head coach John Herdman emphasized that the Garuda squad already understands how to respond to different in-game situations.

Speaking after Indonesia’s 3-0 win over Timor Leste, Herdman explained that the team’s focus is on evaluation rather than new drills. “No, nothing special. Absolutely nothing,” he said during a press conference at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

The English coach noted that evaluations cover several aspects, including leadership within the squad. “We assessed leadership--both from the players and myself--and how we can grow collectively,” Herdman added.

He stressed that leadership is central to building a strong team. “Show me a good team, and I’ll show you good leaders,” he remarked.

Herdman underlined that Indonesia is prepared to handle tense moments against Vietnam, focusing on maintaining identity and discipline. “If things heat up against Vietnam, we already know how to respond. It always comes back to our identity and staying focused on our tasks,” said the former Canada coach.

Team captain Rizky Ridho echoed the sentiment, noting that new players have been briefed on the intensity of facing Vietnam. “We’ve shared with them how tough it is to play Vietnam, but our focus remains on the coach’s plan,” Ridho said.

Indonesia will face Vietnam at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, West Java, on Monday, August 3, 2026. The Garuda squad currently sit second in Group A with six points, behind Singapore on seven.
