​RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The prestigious international amateur golf tournament, the Faldo Series, is making its comeback in Indonesia after a five-year absence. Branded as Faldo Series Indonesia presented by Birdie Bandits, the event will take place at the Gunung Geulis Country Club in Bogor, West Java, from February 6–8, 2026.

The competition features two main categories: the Faldo Junior Tour, for boys and girls aged 13 to 21, and the Faldo Futures, for younger golfers aged 7 to 12. 

Junior Tour participants will compete across 54 holes, earning points toward the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The Futures division is divided into three age groups of 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12, with an 18-hole format played over two days.

First staged in Indonesia in 2007, the Faldo Series was held regularly at Damai Indah Golf Club until 2019. In 2020, it was briefly hosted at Riverside Golf Club under the name Faldo Series Asia Indonesia Championship before going on hiatus for five years.

President Director of Gunung Geulis Country Club, Agung Budiman, expressed hope that the tournament’s return will boost the development of junior golfers in Indonesia. 

“We expect strong enthusiasm because the Faldo Series has been absent from Indonesia for quite some time,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Recognized as one of Asia’s most prestigious youth amateur golf tournaments, the Faldo Series offers winners from Indonesia the chance to advance to regional and global stages. Indonesia’s best results to date came from Fahmi Reza and Clement Erio, who finished fifth and sixth respectively at the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final.

In the 2026 edition, the top two finishers in the Junior Tour category will qualify for the 17th Faldo Junior Tour Asia Grand Final at Laguna Lang Co, Vietnam, scheduled for April 22–24, 2026. Winners of the Futures category will compete in the Futures Final at The Belfry in England.

This year’s tournament also marks the first international event organized by Birdie Bandits, a junior golf club established by Gunung Geulis Country Club in mid-2025. 

Agung explained that Birdie Bandits was created to provide affordable access for young golfers. “As a club with 36 holes, we have the opportunity to offer low-cost access for junior golfers,” he noted.

He added that Birdie Bandits aims to stage tournaments every two months throughout 2026. “In the first six months alone, we already have more than 40 members,” Agung said.

To encourage wider participation, organizers are offering reduced entry fees for athletes under the guidance of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI). Players with official PGI certification will pay the same entry fee as Birdie Bandits members. ***
