Indonesia Eyes 2026 Asian Games After World Climbing Series Success

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia continuously enhances its preparations for the 2026 Asian Games. The achievements earned at the World Climbing Series have become part of the Indonesian sport climbing team's preparation for Asia's largest multi-sport event.

As quoted by the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Secretary of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Sport Climbing Federation (FPTI), Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro, said the Indonesian team's success in winning four medals, including one gold, at the 2026 World Climbing Series Krakow in Poland has become an important asset ahead of upcoming international competitions.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), as we all know, we won several medals. This is certainly an important point, especially in boosting the confidence of our athletes," Wahyu said.

After competing in Krakow, the athletes traveled directly to France to take part in the 2026 World Climbing Series Chamonix, which will be held from July 10 to 12. According to Wahyu, the event is part of a series of international tryouts ahead of the 2026 Asian Games.

"Hopefully, the next series in Chamonix will become an inseparable part of our two international tryouts, so that together we can achieve the best possible results," he said.

FPTI has sent 10 athletes to the Chamonix series, consisting of seven speed climbers and three lead climbers. The federation hopes the lead discipline will once again deliver strong results after Putra Tri Ramadani won a gold medal at the 2026 World Climbing Series Prague in the Czech Republic last June.

Moreover, Wahyu affirmed that the World Climbing Series events attended by the Indonesian team are part of the country's long-term preparations for the 2026 Asian Games in September to October.

"This will certainly be the ultimate moment at the Asian Games. Our current target is to achieve the best possible results at the Asian Games. Everything we are doing is an inseparable part of our preparation to get there," he said.
