RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian national futsal team advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup after defeating Vietnam 3–2 at the Indonesia Arena on Tuesday, February 3.
The quarterfinal match was tightly contested from the very first minute. Both teams launched continuous attacks, but stubborn defenses made it difficult for either side to score early on.
The deadlock was finally broken in the fourth minute through a goal by Indonesian player Wendy Brian Lindrey. In the 11th minute, Ardiansyah Nur doubled the "Garuda" squad's lead after capitalizing on a goalmouth scramble.
Vietnam attempted to break through the Indonesian defense several times, but goalkeeper Ahmad Habiebie successfully thwarted their efforts. The 2-0 scoreline remained unchanged until the halftime whistle blew.
Entering the second half, Indonesia increased the tempo of their play to maintain pressure. However, a quick counterattack from Vietnam resulted in a goal in the 25th minute via a strike from Nguyen Da Hai.
Indonesia responded immediately just one minute later through a shot by Reza Gunawan, shifting the score to 3-1. Trailing behind, Vietnam attempted to use a power-play strategy to narrow the goal deficit.
Several dangerous opportunities were repelled by Habiebie, triggering thunderous cheers from the spectators in the arena. Unfortunately, he could not stop a powerful shot from Da Hai in the 26th minute, which brought the score to 3-2.
The intensity heated up significantly as the match neared its conclusion. Yet, a disciplined defense allowed the Garuda squad to close out the match 3-2, sending Indonesia into its first-ever semifinal in the tournament history. Next, they are set to face Japan, which advanced after defeating Uzbekistan 6-0. (Diva Rifdah/Sri Wahyuni)
