RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia added to its gold medal tally at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand through strong performances in para athletics and para powerlifting, both held in Nakhon Ratchasima on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

In para athletics, Indonesian sprinter Nur Ferry Pradana claimed his second gold medal of the Games despite still recovering from a shoulder injury. Ferry topped the men’s 100 meters T47 final at the 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium on Thursday night, a day after winning gold in the men’s 200 meters T47.

He clocked 11.30 seconds in the 100 meters, demonstrating consistent performance amid tight competition and an ongoing recovery process that began two months ago.

“Competing against the Filipino athlete was not easy, especially as I am not fully recovered from my injury. But I trusted my effort and God’s will,” Ferry said, as quoted by Antara, after raising the Indonesian flag before the crowd.

He emphasized that maintaining respect for opponents helps him stay focused on the track. He noted that rivals’ abilities could be unpredictable, requiring athletes to remain fully prepared at all times.

“By treating opponents as motivation, I can control my emotions, manage strategy, and maximize physical ability without excessive pressure,” he said, adding that psychological recovery is just as important as physical healing in track events that demand high energy and endurance.

Ferry is scheduled to compete again on Friday in the men’s 400 meters T47, aiming to sustain his form while upholding sportsmanship.

Indonesia also secured gold in para powerlifting through Mabruk Arib Dzaky, who won the men’s 59kg BB final at the Convention Hall of The Centre Point Hotel Korat on Thursday afternoon. The 21-year-old lifter marked his debut at the event by delivering a dominant performance.

Dzaky posted a best lift of 163 kg on his third attempt. He lifted 157 kg in his first attempt and 161 kg in his second.

“I was confident today because my average lift in training was around 163 kg, which turned out to be well above my opponents,” said the athlete from West Kalimantan after receiving his medal.

Silver went to Filipino lifter Jules Empizo, whose best valid lift was 147 kg, while Vietnam’s Van Phuc Nguyen claimed bronze with a best lift of 128 kg.

As of Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Jakarta time, the Indonesian para powerlifting team had collected three gold medals and two silver medals since competition began on Wednesday. The 2025 ASEAN Para Games run from January 20-26, 2026. ***
