Para-Cyclist Nurfendi Wins Unexpected First Gold Medal for Indonesia Team

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s campaign at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand began on a high note as para cyclist Nurfendi delivered the first gold medal for the national contingent.
Competing in the men’s time trial B, MB2 classification, he secured victory with an impressive performance.
The race, held at Suranaree University of Technology on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, saw Nurfendi clock 41 minutes 59.763 seconds, a time that placed him firmly at the top of the podium.
Host nation rider Yokphanitchakit Surachai finished second with 42 minutes 10.546 seconds, trailing more than 10 seconds behind.
This achievement marks a promising start for Indonesia’s para cycling team and underscores their competitiveness at the Southeast Asian level.
Team coach Erik Suprianto expressed gratitude for the unexpected triumph. “Alhamdulillah, we are thankful for this result, especially since it was not part of our initial target,” he said, as quoted on the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports official website.
Nurfendi’s gold medal sets the tone for Indonesia’s broader targets, with the contingent aiming to secure at least 82 gold medals throughout the Games. ***
