RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team achieved another positive result in the FIFA Matchday by defeating Mozambique with a narrow score of 1-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. This victory marks the second consecutive win for the Garuda squad after previously defeating Oman 3-0.

Indonesia immediately played aggressively from the start of the match. The first golden opportunity came in the third minute thru a corner kick by Kevin Diks, which was successfully headed by Elkan Baggott. However, the ball only hit the goalpost. The rebound ball directed toward Ole Romeny also hit the post again, resulting in a missed goal.

The goal that the home crowd had been waiting for finally came in the 12th minute. Ragnar Oratmangoen sent a breakthrough pass that was successfully utilized by Ole Romeny. The Indonesian striker was able to get past the Mozambican goalkeeper, Ivane Francisco Urrabal, before slotting the ball into the net and giving Indonesia a 1-0 lead.

Indonesia actually had the chance to double their lead thru a corner kick by Kevin Diks that went straight toward the goal. However, the referee disallowed the goal after deeming there was a foul against the Mozambican goalkeeper. The score of 1-0 for Indonesia held until halftime.

Entering the second half, the match became tighter with many duels in the midfield. Indonesia gradually took control of the game, while Mozambique chose to defend deeper to stifle the host's attacks.

Indonesia had another golden opportunity in the 67th minute. Rayhan Hannan, who had just come on, managed to break thru the opponent's defense from the right side and sent a pass to Nathan Tjoe-A-On. However, Nathan's shot from close range still hit the goalpost.

Mozambique also posed several threats. In the 70th minute, Alcides, standing free on the right side, took a shot that just barely sailed over Maarten Paes' crossbar. Shortly after, Celton Jamisse unleashed a powerful strike toward the near post, but Paes managed to make a brilliant save.

Until the final whistle was blown, no additional goals were scored. Indonesia closed the match with a 1-0 victory, sweeping both FIFA Matchday games in June with wins.

The Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, hopes that these two victories can boost Indonesia's position in the FIFA rankings. Currently, Indonesia is ranked 119th in the world.

"Alhamdulillah, today we were able to secure full points. This means Coach John Herdman will improve the ranking in these two matches. Because Oman is ranked 79th and Mozambique is ranked 101st. Later we will see from the FIFA ranking whether it goes up or down. Hopefully, according to our target, we can approach the number 100 in the future," Erick stated.

Erick also appreciated the players' performance, which he deemed disciplined and capable of executing the strategy well throughout the match.

"The kids played well, the match was quite back-and-forth, and the strategies kept changing. Our players were very good, even tho there were two chances where we couldn't score because the ball hit the goalpost," he said.
