RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia secured multiple gold medals at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, highlighted by victories in para swimming and para cycling events.

Indonesian para swimmer Siti Alfiah delivered the country’s first gold medal from the para swimming competition after winning the women’s 400-meter freestyle S6 final at the Aquatic Center of the 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima.

She clocked a time of 6 minutes 56.86 seconds, finishing ahead of Vietnam’s Trinh Thi Bich Nhu, who took silver in 7:12.09.

Indonesia added another medal in the same race as Riyanti claimed bronze with a time of 7:17.80, edging out the Philippines’ Roble Beariza Ma Josephine, who finished fourth in 8:25.15.

The Indonesian para swimming team at the Games consists of 28 athletes, 19 men and nine women, comprising a mix of experienced swimmers and younger athletes developed through a tiered national training system.

The younger athletes were scouted and developed by the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Indonesia in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Ministry through national competitions, including the National Paralympic Games (Peparnas) and the National Student Paralympic Games (Peparpenas).

In para cycling, Indonesian rider Nurfendi opened Indonesia’s gold medal tally by winning the men’s time trial B (MB2 classification) at Suranaree University of Technology on Wednesday morning. He recorded a time of 41 minutes 59.763 seconds to defeat Thailand’s Yokphanitchakit Surachai, who finished second in 42:10.546.

Later the same day, Indonesia added another gold medal in the women’s time trial B (WB2 classification) through Vanza Mifthahul Jannah, who clocked 34 minutes 55.616 seconds to beat Malaysia’s Nur Azlia Syafinah, who finished second in 35:38.432.

“We are grateful to have secured two gold medals in the same event categories, both men’s and women’s,” said Indonesian para cycling team coach Erik Suprianto, as quoted by Antara. He noted that both cyclists showed strong determination despite racing under hot weather conditions.

Indonesia has sent eight para cyclists to compete at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand. The early gold medal wins have boosted Indonesia’s chances of reaching the minimum target of 82 gold medals set by the Youth and Sports Ministry. ***
