KBRN, Jakarta: A delegation from the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) has arrived in Lausanne, Switzerland, for an official meeting with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The discussion focused on recommendations related to the visa controversy involving Israeli athletes ahead of the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2025 in Jakarta.

The delegation was led by NOC Indonesia Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari, accompanied by Secretary General Wijaya Noeradi, Josephine Tampubolon, Harry Warganegara, and Daniel Loy.

The meeting focused on explaining the Indonesian government’s policies, prevailing social conditions, and security measures for the upcoming championship.

Oktohari said the diplomatic engagement went smoothly and yielded positive outcomes. “We provided a comprehensive understanding of the situation in gymnastics and the broader context in Indonesia,” he said on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

He added that both parties reached constructive common ground. “Communication and transparency were key to the success of the meeting and the process toward a sustainable joint solution,” Oktohari noted.

The IOC responded positively to the Indonesian delegation’s explanation, sparking renewed optimism that the issue can be resolved collectively.

Oktohari emphasized that any solution must uphold the values of sportsmanship and peace, which the Indonesian government consistently promotes.

Indonesia also reaffirmed its commitment to the Olympic Charter, ensuring the safety of all participating athletes remains a top priority. The country continues to play an active role in the Olympic Movement and is committed to fostering a safe and fair sporting environment.

“We hope this moment marks a new beginning in strengthening global trust in Indonesia,” Oktohari said.

Former Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gatot Dewa Broto, previously expressed confidence that the government and NOC Indonesia could resolve the IOC’s recommendations. “This issue must be addressed immediately, as it could impact the planning of future sporting events,” he said.

Gatot also urged Minister Erick Thohir and Oktohari to clearly present Indonesia’s perspective and provide assurances from the government. “We trust both of them, as the global implications are highly political,” he added. (Gusti Panji/Ed. Lasti Martina)
