RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is aiming to translate its recent skateboarding success into Asian Games medals, setting an ambitious target of one gold, one silver, and one bronze at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games as the country continues to strengthen its presence in one of Asia's fastest-growing urban sports.

The target was announced by Indonesian Chef de Mission for the 2026 Asian Games, Todotua Pasaribu, during his first inspection visit to several national skateboarding training camps in Bali on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

"Our target is one gold, one silver, and one bronze. Based on our projections, Basral and Malana already won one gold and one silver at the SEA Games, and we have seen significant progress in their training," Todotua said on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.

Head coach Anthony Adam Caya predicted Basral Graito, the men's street gold medalist at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games, has a strong chance of winning gold in Aichi-Nagoya. Meanwhile, I Wayan Ni Wayan Malana Fairbrother, who claimed bronze in the women's street event at the SEA Games, is expected to contend for another bronze medal.

"We are quite confident. In shaa Allah we predict Basral will win gold, Malana bronze, and Jason silver in the men's park event," Anthony said.

Indonesia also returns with valuable experience after winning a silver medal in the men's street event at the previous Asian Games through Sanggoe Darma Tanjung, who will compete again in 2026.

Sanggoe acknowledged that the competition will be fierce, particularly against regional powerhouses Japan and South Korea, whose teams feature world-class skateboarders.

"My goal is to win gold if possible. But we're competing in Japan, so we have to work even harder. Hopefully, I can achieve that. The strongest rivals are definitely Japan and South Korea. Our preparation remains the same, we train every day and continue improving our skills," he said.

Indonesia has selected eight skateboarders for the Asian Games, with two athletes in each category: men's street, women's street, men's park, and women's park.

The athletes are currently training at several skateparks in Bali, including Amplitude, Motion, and Kuta, with training intensity tailored to each discipline. Amplitude serves as the primary training venue because it offers both street and park courses in one location.

Meanwhile, construction of the official competition venue in Aichi-Nagoya is still underway, meaning athletes will only be able to make final technical adjustments to the new course closer to the Games. ***
