RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The 2026 Asian Boxing U-19 & U-23 Championships officially concluded with Indonesia winning one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals, marking the country's best result at the Asian Championships in several decades.

The 14-day tournament featured 328 athletes from 23 countries, competing in 40 events, with nearly 300 matches held without a single walkover. Indonesian Boxing Association (PERBATI) Secretary General Hengky Silatang said the achievement was the result of strong collaboration among all stakeholders.

"We had dreamed for almost 34 years of hosting an international boxing championship in Indonesia. For the first time, Indonesia won a gold medal in the women's event at the Asian U-19 Championships," Hengky said on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Indonesia's medal haul also exceeded PERBATI's initial expectations. "Our target was modest because the athletes only had around one and a half to two months of preparation, but the results exceeded our expectations," he said.

Asian Boxing Secretary General Ali Mousa Mahmoud described the Jakarta event as one of the best championships ever held. "In nearly 20 years in boxing, I have never seen a tournament with zero walkovers," Ali said.

He added that Indonesia has established itself as one of Asia's top five boxing nations. "Asia is the continent with the strongest boxing competition in the world, so this is an achievement that deserves recognition," he said.

Ali also expressed appreciation to the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Indonesia, and all parties that supported the tournament.

"I believe Indonesia is not only ready to host the Asian Championships but is also prepared to organize the World Championships," he said.

Athens 2004 Olympian Bonyx Saweho called the success a long-awaited milestone. "As a former athlete, I am very proud to see Indonesia hosting a championship of this scale once again," Bonyx said.
