Indonesia Prepares Hockey Athletes for 2025 SEA Games

KBRN, Jakarta: The Central Board of the Indonesian Hockey Federation (PP FHI) is preparing its male and female hockey athletes competing in the 2025 Asian Hockey Championship (2025 AHF Cup) for the 2025 SEA Games.

The 2025 SEA Games will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025 - Friday, December 19, 2025.

“We will keep the existing squad (men and women) for the championship, which is the goal, namely the SEA Games,” said PP FHI Secretary General Yasser Arafat Suaidy in Jakarta on Monday, April 28, 2025, as quoted from antaranews.com.

He explained that FHI must prepare six teams to participate in three disciplines at the 2025 SEA Games: indoor hockey, outdoor hockey, and hockey five.

He said that the squad which competed at the 2025 Asian Hockey Championship at Gelora Bung Karno Hockey Field, Senayan, Jakarta, concluding on Sunday, April 27, 2025, will be maintained for the 2025 SEA Games.

"We need a lot of players to support this (squad for the 2025 SEA Games). So, we started preparing by playing a lot of young players at the Asian Hockey Championships," he explained.

At the 2025 Asian Hockey Championship, the Indonesian men's hockey team concluded their competition in ninth place, securing their sole victory against Singapore with a score of 5-3.

The Indonesian women's hockey team reached the semifinals but ultimately finished fourth after losing to Hong Kong (2-3) in the third-place match.

Yasser said that the Indonesian men's and women's hockey teams had not been able to maximize their performance in the championship due to only one month of preparation.

He mentioned that some of the athletes included were young talents selected from the National Sports Week (PON), meaning they had recently gained experience in international competition.

“So this championship is the right momentum as an intermediate target towards our goal, namely at the upcoming SEA Games,” he concluded.

He added that various shortcomings from the event would be evaluated and improved during the training camp so the team could maximize its performance at the upcoming 2025 SEA Games. ***
