KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian national soccer team has recorded a historic achievement by reaching the 123rd position in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

This marks Indonesia's best ranking in the past 15 years, climbing four spots from its previous position 127.

According to Football Ranking records, Indonesia has not held a position as high as 123 since 2010.

Indonesia briefly reached 120th in the FIFA rankings on December 16, 2009, but it fell to 138th by March 31, 2010.

After a slight climb to 125th on January 12, 2011, Indonesia's ranking steadily declined, reaching a low of 191st in August 2016.

This significant rise in Indonesia's FIFA ranking resulted from their performance in the third round of the World Cup Qualifiers, where Indonesia secured a victory over Bahrain.

"The victory over Bahrain in the Asian zone World Cup Qualifiers has propelled Indonesia's FIFA ranking up four places to 123rd. This 123rd ranking is Indonesia's best position in the FIFA rankings in the last 15 years," said the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Chairman Erick Thohir, as quoted from his personal Instagram account on Thursday, April 3, 2025, rri.co.id reported.

Erick Thohir added that this achievement proves the team's hard work since the beginning of Shin Tae-yong's coaching era in 2021.

"We will continue to work hard and strive to bring Indonesia into the top 100 world rankings," he said.

Despite this progress, Indonesia's FIFA ranking still trails behind its two main rivals in the ASEAN region, namely Thailand, which is ranked 99th, and Vietnam, which holds the 109th position. ***
