RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Jakarta is expanding artistic spaces for young people through cultural programs. The initiative aims to foster creativity, character development, and historical awareness.

That was stated by the Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno during a musical performance by Sekolah Seni Yonif in Jakarta, Sunday, 30, 2026. He further remarked that art performance is a medium to introduce the heroism and history.

"...as well as shape character, courage, and empathy of the youngs to the national culture," he said. Rano saw arts and culture is important in developing creative manpower, which in line with Jakarta's goal to grow as a global city.

Rano, who had experiences in filmmaking, then challenged young directors and studios to create Jakarta-themed performances. The productions would commemorate Jakarta's 500th anniversary in 2027.

He specifically proposed exploring major historical events, including the 1740 Geger Pecinan. The Jakarta administration pledged funding and assistance for the planned production.

"We will support the funding and the performance will be brought back to the stage of Taman Ismail Marzuki," the vice governor said.

The Jakarta administration will strengthen artistic collaboration through programs including Taman Ismail Marzuki, a communal park and art center. The park's underused facilities there will support studios, rehearsals, cinemas, and filmmaking activities.
