RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government is intensifying efforts to protect children through the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children (Gerakan Nasional Ruang Aman dan Nyaman untuk Anak/Gernas RANA), a nationwide strategy to prevent violence and ensure every child grows up in a safe environment.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, said Gernas RANA will strengthen child protection in homes, schools, public spaces, and online. The government is also preparing a rapid response system and expanding reporting channels for victims and the community.

“This is the first step to ensure children grow up healthy physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. With this foundation, we encourage them to learn and develop their abilities to become valuable contributors to a prosperous Indonesia,” Minister Pratikno said at a press conference at the Government Communications Agency (Bakom RI) office in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

He emphasized that child protection requires collaboration across ministries and local administrations. Several programs have been integrated to create safe environments for children.

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) supports these efforts through the Raise Hand and Speak program, which aims to build children’s trust in law enforcement.

The government has also prepared multiple complaint channels, including SAPA 129, the National Police Hotline 110, and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) service.

Minister Pratikno urged children and communities to report violence, noting that increased reports do not necessarily mean more cases but may reflect greater public willingness to speak up.

“An increase in reported cases doesn’t necessarily mean the number of incidents has risen. It could also show that the public is becoming more courageous about filing complaints,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Romo R. Muhammad Syafi’i, said the ministry supports Gernas RANA by strengthening child protection in madrasas and Islamic boarding schools through regulations, anti‑violence education, and complaint channels.

He added that child protection is a long‑term investment in preparing the Indonesia Emas (Golden Indonesia) 2045 generation, requiring support from all elements of society. (Misni Parjiati)
