RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs plans to summon representatives of Meta following findings of spam comments promoting online gambling.
“Based on our monitoring, these promotional comments are most prevalent on Meta-owned platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook,” said Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, during a press conference at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Alexander noted that the spam comments are suspected to be one of the drivers behind the surge in online gambling activity, which the Ministry reported has risen by 128 percent.
He added that over the past two weeks, the Ministry addressed 126,180 pieces of online gambling content. Of this total, Meta’s platforms accounted for 4,549 pieces.
In addition, the Ministry took action against 4,579 pieces of gambling content on YouTube and 622 pieces on X. Beyond social media, the Ministry also blocked 111,279 illegal gambling websites during the same period.
“From June 1 to 28, we addressed a total of 126,180 pieces of content -- not just from social media platforms. However, the largest number was indeed on Meta, with 4,549 pieces,” said Alexander. (Gusti Panji)
