RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, is preparing to expand its School Revitalization Program in 2026 following the program's strong performance in the previous year. The government plans to add around 60,000 educational institutions to the program in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive.

According to a statement published on the ministry's official website on June 16, 2026, the Ministry Secretary-General, Suharti, explained that the Rp13.4 trillion (approximately US$820 million) budget currently allocated for the program is designated for the revitalization of 11,744 educational institutions. Meanwhile, the proposed addition of around 60,000 schools is still under discussion and budget planning in accordance with the President's instruction.

"The target of 71,744 educational institutions is a new target, up from the initial target of 11,744 institutions," she said in Jakarta on June 16.

She added that the program will prioritize heavily damaged schools, educational institutions in Indonesia's frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged regions (3T), as well as schools requiring rehabilitation and reconstruction following natural disasters.

Earlier, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti, stated that the government is preparing the program's expansion to improve educational infrastructure across the country.

"Insyaallah (God willing), there will be an additional 60,000 educational institutions. This will bring the total target of the revitalization program to 71,744 educational institutions nationwide," Mu'ti said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on June 11.

In 2025, the School Revitalization Program exceeded its target, achieving full implementation at 16,167 educational institutions across Indonesia. The ministry allocated Rp16.9 trillion (approximately US$1.04 billion) to support the program.

The government expects the expanded program in 2026 to create safer and more conducive learning environments while strengthening equitable access to quality education throughout the country. Through the initiative, the government aims to ensure that all students have equal learning opportunities and are able to develop their full potential.
