RRI.CO.ID, Tabanan - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, praised the progress of the People's School (Sekolah Rakyat) program, a free boarding school initiative for children from underprivileged families. He observed that many students wanted to enroll in the People's School, indicating they wished to pursue an education to secure a better future.

He observed this progress during his visit to the People's Junior High School 17 Tabanan in Tabanan Regency, Bali, on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Prabowo was informed that the number of applicants to the school had exceeded its capacity.

"So, I am pleased to see the progress of the People's School program. Of course, there is still a great deal of work to be done because it turns out that many people need this type of school," Prabowo said.

"I recall the report from the Minister of Social Affairs earlier in Tabanan, the school's current enrollment has already reached more than 400 students... whereas the school only has space for 270," he continued.

Head of the junior high school, I Putu Jaya Negara, said that the school is the first People's School in Bali. However, the government aims to build eight more such schools, one in each regency and city across the tourist province.

"The plan is for all districts to have one, sir. One per district, one per city," Putu said to Prabowo. The President encouraged all local governments to look for land to develop these schools. On the occasion, he also motivated the students to study diligently and treat their fellow human beings with kindness.

"Respect your teachers, love your parents, always get along with your friends, always be kind to others, be polite... That's the key to success," he said.

The People's School is one of his landmark educational programs. Another similar program is the Garuda School (Sekolah Garuda), a new boarding school that aims to cultivate global talent in science and technology.
