RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ombudsman is urging improvements in public service governance and stronger administrative compliance, particularly within the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas).

Ombudsman member Nuzran Joher said these measures must accompany ongoing evaluations and efforts to strengthen management at several key institutions.

“The Ombudsman has previously submitted corrective actions and recommendations to both institutions and continues to monitor their implementation,” Nuzran said on Thursday, June 12, 2026.

He noted that recent law enforcement processes and leadership changes across agencies could serve as momentum to enhance oversight, transparency, and accountability in public services.

Regarding the Free Nutritional Meal Program (MBG), Nuzran emphasized that the Ombudsman continues to exercise its independent oversight role. In September 2025, the Ombudsman submitted the results of a rapid analysis of MBG governance to BGN.

“The early detection and prevention functions remain effective. At that time, we submitted several alleged administrative errors along with recommendations for governance improvements to BGN leadership,” he said.

The Ombudsman stressed that recommendations aimed at strengthening governance and mitigating conflicts of interest must be implemented to ensure the program runs optimally.

In the immigration sector, the Ombudsman highlighted the need to strengthen service and oversight systems, including providing more open, accessible, and transparent complaint channels for foreign nationals at immigration offices nationwide.

According to Nuzran, adequate complaint mechanisms can help improve service quality while reinforcing public oversight of immigration services.

“The Indonesian Ombudsman will continue to carry out its oversight mandate objectively to ensure bureaucratic reform and that public services are delivered in line with the principles of transparency, accountability, and the public interest,” he said.

In the near future, the Ombudsman will coordinate with the new BGN leadership to obtain updates on the implementation of previous recommendations.

Additionally, the Ombudsman is encouraging the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) to optimize its role in strengthening inter-sectoral coordination, controlling national priority programs, and accelerating the resolution of strategic public service issues. (Misni Parjiati)
