Prabowo Urges Calm, Vigilance amid Mount Krakatau Eruptions

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto issued an appeal amid the recent eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, which has caused volcanic ash to scatter across the Indian Ocean and several provinces in Sumatra and Java over the past weekend. He urged the public, particularly those surrounding the volcano, to remain calm and vigilant.

"The president urges all members of the public, particularly our brothers and sisters in Jakarta, Banten, Lampung, and areas surrounding the Sunda Strait, to remain calm, increase their vigilance, follow all instructions from the government and officials on the ground, refrain from approaching the Mount Anak Krakatau area, and fully comply with the danger zones and safety boundaries established by the authorities," Prabowo said in a social media post on Sunday, September 6, 2026, as monitored by RRI Voice Of Indonesia in Jakarta.

For communities affected by the volcanic ash, the president advised residents to protect their health by wearing masks or respiratory protection, reducing outdoor activities if ash concentrations become heavy, and following guidance from health officials and local governments.

Prabowo stated that he is closely monitoring developments in Mount Anak Krakatau’s activity and has received the latest reports from relevant agencies. He added that he has instructed all government bodies to maintain preparedness and provide necessary protection and assistance to the public.

"The public is urged to remain calm, but should not become complacent. The President will continue to monitor developments and take every necessary decision and measure to ensure the safety and protection of all the people of Indonesia," he stated.

Concluding his statement, Prabowo invited Indonesians to pray for the safety of those affected by the eruption and other ongoing disasters across the country.

"May they be granted safety, strength, and resilience in facing every trial," he said.

Mount Anak Krakatau has been erupting continuously since last Friday, with volcanic ash reaching surrounding cities, including Jakarta, over the weekend. As of Sunday night, Indonesia’s Geological Agency continued to record volcanic activity, with an eruption logged at 20:23 local time lasting 44 seconds.
