RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, briefed 1,764 participants in the Basic Military Training (Latsarmil) for the Reserve Component (Komcad) of the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) at Artha Hanggar Indonesia, Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

"So, you must compete to achieve success, because it is your achievements that will determine your position at the front or back. This happens throughout the world, and it also happens in the Indonesian National Armed Forces. Ranks may be the same, but if achievements differ, those who excel will have more opportunities to advance than others," he said.

Minister Sjafrie also expressed his respect for the ASN's participation in the Komcad training. He also congratulated them on their enthusiasm and strong willingness to participate in discipline development to achieve the resilience you need to defend the nation.

"Remember, ASN, I have experience that the sweat we shed has only two benefits. One benefit is for yourself, so you can keep moving forward, keep moving, and never stop," Sjafrie conveyed.

In addition, Minister Sjafrie briefed the ASN Komcad Latsarmil participants on patriotism, nationalism, and professionalism. He further stated that the participants' training period would soon end, and they would be sworn in as Komcad members.

" The Basic Military Training will soon conclude, and you will be sworn in as Komcad members. This is a major source of pride for ASNs, especially in Jakarta. This is our first batch of ASN training," he mentioned.

According to him, the changes in the participants might not be immediately visible physically, but they would be felt in their respective work environments.

"In time, all ministers will see the changes in the civil servants' appearance. "Although it may not be visible, the Ministry's work environment will feel that you have made a difference," he said.

The Minister said the changes in the participants were not due to their military training, but rather to their national defense training. "Defending the country is a right and obligation for all citizens. So, you should be proud to be the first to participate in basic military training. You have answered the nation's call as Reserve Component," he conveyed.

Meanwhile, the Head of the National Reserve Agency of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Gabriel Lema, stated that the participants who were designated as Reserve Component members had also completed approximately one and a half months of basic military training. The program began on April 22, 2026, and is officially scheduled to conclude on June 5, 2026.

He further explained, the participants underwent a selection process involving various ministries and government agencies. The criteria included an age range of 18–35 years, physical fitness, psychological condition, and ideological resilience. He made the statement after leading the oath-taking and inauguration ceremony for the Reserve Component members from the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) of ministries and agencies at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Gabriel underscored that the basic military training serves only as a development and training platform for Komcad participants. Meanwhile, the primary foundation of national defense readiness remains the spirit of defending the nation. “The duty of national defense is based on constitutional principles and is clearly stipulated in our laws; every citizen has both the right and the obligation to participate in national defense efforts,” he said.

Nationally, the number of Reserve Component personnel established so far has reached approximately 50,000 members. Going forward, the formation of ASN Reserve Components will be expanded to regional governments throughout Indonesia.

The Ministry of Defense has also prepared a second wave of ASN Reserve Component recruitment this year. “We will open the second batch at the end of August,” Gabriel said.
