KRI Brawijaya-320 and KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 Escort ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - KRI Brawijaya-320 and KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, both part of the Indonesian Navy’s 2nd Fleet Escort Squadron, welcomed and escorted ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi as the aircraft carrier entered the Indonesian Archipelagic Sea Lane (ALKI) I on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

As quoted by tni.go.id, the escort was carried out as part of the carrier’s arrival in Indonesia after departing from Italy on August 24, 2026, and making its way toward Jakarta.

ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi arrived in Jakarta on Friday, September 18, 2026, where it was welcomed by Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali, the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force, and a number of other government officials.

The arrival of ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi in Indonesia marks an important step in strengthening the Indonesian Navy’s defense capabilities and equipment, particularly in support of Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP), including disaster response and humanitarian missions, which are among the government’s priorities. The escort by KRI Brawijaya-320 and KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 was also part of the reception process, accompanying the vessel safely toward Jakarta.

The Through-deck Aviation Cruiser arrived after undertaking an intercontinental voyage from the Port of Taranto, Italy, beginning on August 24, 2026. The 6,870-nautical-mile journey passed through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and the Indian Ocean before entering Indonesian waters via ALKI I.

While sailing through Indonesian waters, the vessel was closely escorted by Indonesian Navy warships until it safely reached dock 107 at Tanjung Priok.
