RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi The long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train crashed into a Commuter Line Train at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi, West Java, on Monday night, April 27, 2026. The collision involved KRL Commuter Line, a commuter rail service in the Greater Jakarta area, which is the largest in Southeast Asia.

It is reported that a commuter train earlier struck a stalled taxi at an ungated railway crossing near Bekasi Timur Station, and another commuter train was delayed departing the station because the incident site blocked the track. At the same time, the Argo Bromo Anggrek – connecting Jakarta with Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city located in East Java – was heading towards Bekasi Timur Station due to a signal error.

Both collisions impacted the Blue Line, a KRL Commuter Line track connecting Jakarta and Cikarang town in Bekasi Regency, also in West Java. Running along Jakarta's loop line in the city's downtown, the line has transported over 85 million passengers in 2025, making it the second busiest of the six-line rail system.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 28 April 2026, 15 people were dead, and 88 were taken to the hospital. In a press conference on Tuesday morning, the President Director of the country's state-owned railway company Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Bobby Rasyidin, said the long-distance train had been evacuated to the nearest station, and one of the two railway tracks had been reopened. However, Commuterline operations are still limited to Bekasi Station, the city’s main station.

"As I mentioned earlier, the downstream track has been reopened for train operations. However, the Commuterline is not yet able to operate at Bekasi Timur Station, so for now, Commuterline services are limited to Bekasi Station," he said, speaking on the impact on the Blue Line.

Indonesia's President, Prabowo Subianto, visited the victims at hospital on Tuesday and expressed condolences to the victims. He also stated that the Indonesian government will repair problematic railway crossings to reduce the risk of accidents, allocating up to Rp4 trillion, about US$232 million.
